Want to free up space in your wardrobe before Christmas?
Clothing waste puts a great deal of pressure on the environment. Not only because fast fashion is highly disposable, but the production of clothing impacts the planet. Here at DonationRing we want to help reduce this problem with our free clothes collections.

Our collections are more convenient than finding a drop-off location or organising the transport yourself. We pick up donations from your doorstep or a designated location, saving you time and effort.
DonationRing is also ideal for anyone who doesn’t have access to a recycling centre nearby. Free collection services are especially easier for those with mobility issues or limited means to donate clothes.
You’ll be supporting various charitable organisations, so your donations directly contribute to helping those in need. Unwanted clothes will be redistributed to people who can benefit from them or sold to fund various charitable projects.
Which charities do we support at DonationRing?
Charities which we support include the Leukaemia Cancer Society which ensures that more people with Leukaemia and other blood cancers survive, and that they have the best possible quality of life. It also ensures that their families and carers get the support they need.
Other organisations we support include Tommy’s which fund research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. They also provide pregnancy health information to parents.
The fashion industry produces a gargantuan amount of waste.
In fact, it’s estimated that around 92 million tons of textile waste are created annually. The rise of ‘fast fashion’ is a particular problem. Thus refers to the production of cheaper, lower-quality clothes which are only worn for a short amount of time.
How much clothing ends up in landfills?
Unfortunately, a substantial portion of clothing ends up in landfills. Across the pond in the United States, it’s estimated that about 85% of textiles are thrown away, amounting to more than 11 million tons of textile waste annually. Here in the UK, around 350,000 tonnes of used clothing goes to landfills each year.
How do clothes affect the environment?
They have a negative impact on the environment in various ways, including:
- Contributing towards climate change. The decomposition of textiles in landfills can release greenhouse gases, including methane, which contributes to climate change.
- Creating chemical pollution. The production and disposal of clothing involve the use of various chemicals, dyes, and treatments. Improper disposal can lead to these chemicals leaching into soil and water sources, causing environmental pollution.
- Clothes made from certain materials degrade slowly. Synthetic fibres like polyester, nylon, and other petroleum-based materials used in clothing take a very long time to decompose, sometimes hundreds of years.
- Water consumption. The production of clothing, especially cotton garments, requires vast amounts of water. The water footprint of a single cotton T-shirt can be astonishingly high, leading to water scarcity in some regions.
Our free clothes collection service is just one way to reduce clothing waste.
We’re committed to recycling your old clothes, whether through donating them to charities or providing warm clothing for the homeless.

It also helps to support sustainable and ethical fashion, encouraging second-hand shopping or clothing swaps. Educating yourself about the impact of your choices and opting for sustainable, quality clothing that lasts longer can significantly reduce clothing waste.
Ideally it’s best for us to switch towards a circular fashion economy, where garments are designed to be recycled, upcycled, or biodegradable. This can help mitigate the clothing waste problem.
